About Me

My name is Michael Duch, and I am a freshman in the class of 2017. As of now I am trying to pursue Biomedical Engineering here at Duke and am really excited to do so.

Name Pronunciation

The way I pronounce my name, "Michael Duch" sounds like "MY-Kull Duke". Yes, my last name is pronounced exactly like the name of this great university.

Favorite Matlab Demonstration

My favorite Matlab Demonstration was the Loma Prieta Earthquake one. There were a few other demonstrations - ones that were not assigned - that really interested me, but the Earthquake demonstration was certainly my favorite for two main reasons. First, using actual recorded data from a historical event and being able to manipulate it myself absolutely blew my mind. It's so incredible that through this demonstration I was able to access historical measurements from an actual environmental catastrophe and use them to look at some of the graphs that professionals did at the time and still probably do. The second thing that made it my favorite was that with one set of data the Matlab demonstration produced so many different graphs. The fact that so many graphs could be produced from one chunk of data and that the data could be analyzed in so many different ways through Matlab was pretty impressive to me to say the least.
