About: I am an undergraduate student at Duke University who is studying Biomedical Engineering. Being a "small-town" girl, I love the close community and family that can be found here at Duke, and I am excited to see what the future years hold for me.
Interests: I love singing and musical theatre; I also enjoy playing various sports, especially water skiing and swimming. I am a huge bookworm as well, and therefore I adore reading just about anything.
Grand Challenges for Engineering:
Article Link addressing how to provide access to clean water
- Biological approaches for addressing the grand challenge of providing access to clean drinking water, Mark R. Riley, Charles P. Gerba, and Menachem Elimelech, Journal of Biological Engineering, Published 31 March 2011, Accessed 31 January 2016
MatLab Demonstration
- My favorite demonstration was the animation of the "Bending Truss." I found this one very interesting, because when I was in grade school, I did a science fair report on different types of bridges and how to determine their strength based on their architectural design; for my experiment I built a couple different types of bridges and compared them to one another. I was reminded of this because one of my bridge's structures resembled the same form of trusses as shown in the "Bending Truss" animation.
