FAQ

  • How does this work with a router? DukeEgr93 16:50, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
    • See the main PuTTY page, specifically with respect to setting up tunneling. Even if you are on a router, the tunneling will take care of getting the information to the right machine. DukeEgr93 21:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
  • What does PuTTY stand for? DukeEgr93 18:20, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

  • I keep having PuTTY crash with a 'PuTTY Fatal Error' - 'Network Error: Software caused connection abort' whenever I run matlab. The program starts up fine and is slow but usable until it crashes. Any idea what is wrong? Nag9 10:32, 7 September 2009 (EDT)nag9
  • I am receiving the locking authority file error: 'Could not chdir to home directory /afs/acpub/users/d/m/dmm44: Connection timed out' '/usr/bin/xauth: error in locking authority file /afs/acpub/users/d/m/dmm44/.Xauthority' but when I try the 'cd' 'rm -i .Xauth*' solution, I receive the following: 'cd: Can't change to home directory.' I have tried connecting to different machines, resetting my internet connection, restarting PuTTY, X-Win, and my computer, all with no effect. What's the problem? dmm44 16:33, 8 November 2009 (EDT)
    • At present (6:45 PM on Sunday, 8 November) OIT seems to have lost connectivity to some peopls' home drives. In fact, their own web site is behaving oddly at the moment. Outages such as this get the greatest attention from OIT and should be resolved by the end of the day. DukeEgr93 18:45, 8 November 2009 (EST)
