Alternate Logins

On occasion, the primary way to log in to a UNIX environment,

ssh -XY netid@login-teer.oit.duke.edu

does not work. In those instances, there are a couple different things to try

  1. First, make absolutely sure you have tried to connect correctly. Check to make sure you put in your NET ID, that the CAPS LOCK button is off, and that you have typed in everything correctly. Also check OIT to see if there are any alerts.
  2. If you are sure you are trying to connect to login-teer.oit.duke.edu correctly, you will want to try a Virtual Computer Lab. This has OIT spin up a virtual machine that has all the benefits of Teer without all the problems suffered by the physical Teer machines (power outages, connectivity issues, etc, etc). Information on connecting this way is at VCL#Using_a_Linux_VCL_and_MATLAB
  3. Finally, if you have to, try an actual Teer machine, but check Oddities first. Note, however, that the Oddities page will not be updated as often now that the login-teer system exists.
