All About Me
Hello all. I am Lucas Spangher, a freshman in the Trinity College. I am currently in the process of transferring over to Pratt. I plan, and have planned on since matriculation, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a certificate in Energy and the Environment. During the application process, however, I had thought that it would be environmental science. But that's changed. I'm also toying around with the idea of a math minor, and perhaps an environmental science minor. My goal is to get a PhD in some form of alternative energy research, and plan to work in academia studying alternative energy. In my free time, I enjoy playing cello, reading the news, perusing XKCD, petting cats, etc.

Name Pronunciation
Lucas Spangher: The Lucas part is easy. My last name is actually pronounced "spahn-GER" with emphasis on the second syllable, but "SPAYN-ger" works fine, I guess.
Grand Challenges in Engineering
The following article characterizes the problem of hydrogen trapping on the walls of a thermonuclear hydrogen fusion device. It describes hydrogen retention on the walls of the "tokamak" and then investigates the protocols of plasma discharge in retaining hydrogen.

MATLAB Demonstration
My favorite Demo was the demonstration of the Werner Boy Surface. The ambiguity of the so-called Werner Boy was mysterious, and therefore, appealing. It was also seems really interesting and important that a serface could have a "triple point" and no singularity. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I assume that it is due to some aspect of matrix singularity; i.e. the state of a matrix in which there is no invert of the matrix. Also, I'm not quite sure what a triple point is, but I assume that it has something to do with intersection of points or edges on a surface.
