About Me

My name is Emily, and I'm a student in EGR103. I'm interested in biomedical engineering, but am also very open to changing my mind. Specifically, I'm interested in neuroscience, especially Neuroprosthetics, so if you know of anything neuroprosthetics related on Duke's campus, or any other ways I could get involved, feel free to let me know!

Name Pronounciation

My first name, Emily, is pronounced like Emily Blunt pronounces her first name. My last name is pronounced "berry," like the kind of fruit.

Current Courses

For Fall 2017, I am taking:

  • Chemistry
  • Math
  • EGR 103
  • Another Engineering Design Course

Grand Challenges for Engineering

The 14 Grand Challenges for Engineering provide meaningful perspective for future engineers about why we learn engineering, and what common goals we as a community of engineers are striving to achieve. With that in mind, one of the challenges that particularly speaks to me is improving the accessibility of clean water. Here are a few articles regarding the importance of this issue, as well as potential solutions:

Favorite MATLAB Demonstration

My favorite MATLAB demonstration is the 3D-Drawing Demonstration. This demonstration is particularly interesting to me for a few reasons, not the least of which is the high amount of user input. The fact that the user can design whatever shape they want, makes the simulation itself very user oriented. It was the most fun demonstration to explore and spend time with because the user was able to test different shapes, so the demonstration was different every time. Aside from being the most interactive, this demonstration also conveys a lot of more complicated MATLAB concepts. In particular, the ideas of rotation, and the idea of creating a 3D surface are present in this demonstration, both of which are particularly engaging ideas.
