My personal favorite demonstration was the penny topography demonstration. I was literally fidgeting and playing with a penny while I went through it, and it was for some reason shocking that a penny actually had measurable and noted topography. (One of those things where if you thought it about it you would have always known/put two and two together, but you've never actually associated).
